Still Learning
I am in a constant learning state. I took my son to the
Museum of Natural History and attempted shooting some photos inside. I've got some learnin' to do. It seems I can do okay outside while inside shots will take some work.
In searching the web on instructions and how aperture and shutter speeds work, I came across a site that blew me away. It is a site dedicated to photographic competitions and the submissions are breathtaking. The site is
DPChallenge and I strongly urge you peruse this site if you like this sort of stuff.
The Clincher
The shot that really made me rethink this whole thing about photography was a shot of my son, Rigel, at the L.A. Zoo. When I finally downloaded the pictures later that afternoon, I was struck with awe as I viewed a shot of him next to the bust of a gorilla.

I was mesmerized by the look on the face of my young son. It was here I realized that photography is very much a matter of chance as well as skill and experience. What I need to do is to acquire the skills I need to maximize the probability of getting pictures like this one.
I was hooked.
My Camera
My wife was lamenting that we are not documenting the childhood of our son, Rigel. She was right in as much that we have three point-and-shoot cameras in the house and our estrogen-laden family members have misplaced them all. Still, time was passing by and no ongoing pictures of our family as time passes. It was then my wife and I decided to get and exclusive-use family camera. By that I mean that the new, digital SLR was to be used my me only as I am pretty anal about keeping things together and not losing stuff.
In the end, after a little research, I decided on a Nikon D40
dSLR with 6.1
Mpixel, 3008X2000 pixel resolution. The camera came with two lenses; an 18-55mm wide angle lens and a 55-200mm zoom
lens. Although I am not well versed in the workings of cameras, the little I've learned so far has allowed me to take some beautiful pictures, albeit with the help of Nikon's electronics.
My Way of Sharing
This is a place where I will post and comment on my photography. There is so much to learn and I am just now scratching the surface, to include running this blog.
